Editorial Comment
Art Myatt
web site manager for MDG

While George Bush, President of the United States by Appointment of the Supreme Court, is using the tragedy of the World Trade Center as an excuse to begin World War III, we might be able to use a little wisdom gained from the experience of World War I. You remember World War I - that was the war to end wars and to make the world safe for democracy. Randolph Bourne gained some insight into the process of war, and was able to write some of it down before he died.

A short selection from Bourne's writing.

Who Was Randolph Bourne? - answered by John Dos Passos.

War is the Health of the State, a longish and valuable essay by Randolph Bourne.

Oakland County Green Party

Meeting on Monday, November 18, 2002 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

West Bloomfield Library
4600 Walnut Lake Road
Click for map to library

Agenda includes:

2002 election evaluation

Determination of open seats for upcoming special elections (we expect that some officeholders will be elected to other offices, thus vacating their seats and necessitating special elections)

Consideration of nominating mechanics for open seats

Discussion of elections 2003 (West Bloomfield Twp. Trustee elections, for example)

Discussion of 2004 elections (No Gov. or U.S. Senate seats up - so the top of the ticket races will be Congressional seats) Every State Rep. seat will also be up for election, and Oakland County races like County Exec., Sheriff, Prosecutor, Drain Commissioner, Clerk, Treasurer.

We will discuss consolidation of Oakland County locals, and continued outreach.

We hope that members of WOWGreens, Greenhouse Outreach Greens, Metro Detroit Greens and Oakland University Greens all will attend.

We also will set a schedule of meetings dates for the next twelve months, with locations held at different places in the County.

The December meeting and all following are up for grabs for hosting people and locations.

An expanded or modified yahoogroups listserv will also be discussed.

I apologize in advance for doing some of this on my own without consensus on everything (especially the date place of the meeting). Several of the issues above have already been the subject of discussion among WOWGreens at our last meeting at Marilyn Morgan's house.

We would appreciate RSVP's but it is not required.

Feel free to call me at 248-866-0864.

The room is already reserved and paid for, so this is a go for sure. How much we accomplish depends on who shows up, and what we want to do.
